Create, Download and Install Medical Device Communicator (MeDiC) for MacOS

In this article, you will learn creation and installation of new MeDiC (Medical Device Communicator) application to your Macs running Apple MacOS High Sierra, Mojave. Follow the step below to view and install MeDiC applications.

Step 1: Login to your account and click on the “Settings” icon on the upper right side of the page.

Step 2: On application settings section, click on “Medical Device Communicators” menu item on the left side of the page.

Step 3: MeDiC applications of the current user will be displayed on the right hand side of the page. For each MeDiC application, its name, created time, operating system, IP and current status will be displayed. If you do not see your MeDiC application click on the “Refresh” button to refresh the MeDiC applications list.

To add a new MeDiC, click on “Add new Medical Device Communicator” button on the upper right side of the field.

Step 4: The “Select operating system” form will be shown and supported operating systems will be listed on the form. MeDiC applications can run on computers running Microsoft Windows 7, 8, 8.1 or 10. Moreover, it can run on Macintosh computers running Apple MacOS High Sierra or Mojave. Minimum requirements for corresponding operating system can be seen by clicking on the information icon. Choose the operating system that is compatible with your computer.

Step 5: Click on the operating system to download MeDiC setup to your computer.

Step 6: When setup file is downloaded, click on “PostDICOM_MDC.pkg” to run it. PostDICOM Medical Device Communicator Setup page will be opened. Click on the “Next” button.

You may see the screen below. Click on "OK".

Click on "System Preferences".

Click on "Security & Privacy".

Click on "Open Anyway".

Enter your Mac - User Name and Password. Then, click "Install Software".

MeDiC Installation starts. After a while, it asks for PostDICOM User information.

Enter your PostDICOM e-mail address and password and click on “Next” button.

If you have more than one institution, please, proceed with caution. Institution Selection Form will be displayed so that you can select the current institution for this MeDiC. This step is very important. Because, each MeDiC application can only work for one Institution. When you send your DICOM files to this MeDiC, every file received by this MeDiC is only saved to the selected institution. After correct institution is selected, click on the “Next” button to continue.

Click "Next".

Enter your Mac - User Name and Password. Then, click "OK".

Click “Close”.

When installation is finished, click on the “Back” button to list your MeDiC application(s).

Step 7: You will see newly installed MeDiC in the Medical Device Communicators list with its name, created time, operating system, IP and status information. If you do not see your MeDiC application click on the “Refresh” button to refresh the MeDiC applications list.

Editing Medical Device Communicator (MeDiC) PACS Server Settings for MacOS

In this article, you will learn how to manage PACS Server settings of a Medical Device Communicator (MeDiC) in your account.

MeDiC software must be installed on a local area network (LAN) and DICOM Nodes must be at the same network, otherwise, they can not communicate with each other.

To edit a MeDiC application, click on “Edit” icon on the right side of the page.

MeDiC General Settings will be shown.

Click on “PACS Server Settings” header on the upper side of the page.

In this page, you can see MeDiC PACS Server settings with DICOM Nodes list. MeDiC PACS Server settings are Institution, AE Title, Port and Connection Security. Institution and MeDiC PACS Server AE Title are fixed. You can edit MeDiC PACS Server Port information by writing in related fields. After port number is changed, click on the “Save” button to save the changes. Then MeDiC will automatically restart.

Adding a DICOM Node

DICOM request from unregistered nodes will be rejected by the MeDiC PACS Server. Therefore, every modality that will interact with the MeDiC PACS Server must be added to the Nodes list.

You can add a new DICOM Node by following the steps below.

Step 1: Write name and LAN IP of the DICOM Node. Then, add new AE Title by clicking on the “Add” button.

Step 2: After clicking the “Add” icon, you can see “AE Title information” section on the lower side on the page. Change automatically filled AE Title and Port information with your medical device’s AE Title and Port information.

Step 3: After filling with the correct information, click on the “Update” button to update AE Title List.

Step 4: Most of the DICOM Nodes has only one AE Title and Port values. If your DICOM Node has more than one AE Title for different uses, click on the “Add” button to add new AE Title and port information.

To delete an value from the AE Title List, select it by clicking on the item. Then click the “Delete” button.

Step 5: After filling the necessary information click on the “Add” button to add newly created DICOM node to the Nodes list.

New DICOM node will be added to the Nodes list on the left side of the page.

Step 6: To reflect the changes, click on “Save” button on the upper right side of the page. If you close the Settings page without saving, all of the changes will be lost. Make sure that you saved your changes before closing the current window.

Editing DICOM Nodes

You can prevent your DICOM nodes to communicate with the MeDiC PACS Server by changing is Active/Passive status. Click on the “Passive” button to make the node passive (Cannot send data to MeDiC PACS Server and cannot receive data from it). Click on the “Active” button to make the node active (can send data to MeDiC PACS Server and can receive data from it). After changing its status click on the “Save” button to save the configuration.

To clear all of the information on the “Properties” and “AE Title Information” area click on the “Clear” button.

To delete a DICOM Node, click on the node you want to delete. Then, click on “Delete” icon on the right side of the page. Click on the “Save” button to save the configuration.

To edit a DICOM Node, click on the node you want to edit. Make necessary changes, then click on the “Update” button on the right side of the page. Finally, click on the “Save” button to save the configuration.

To verify (DICOM Echo) a DICOM Node click on the “Verify” button on the right side of the page.

Once you have clicked, you will see a message box indicated that verification succeeded or not. Click on “OK” to close the box.
